The Devil is in the Detail

The Devil is in the Detail

A commonly used phrase which serves us well when considering resettlement, compensation and livelihood restoration issues, and when things go south; remedy. It is not easy to write guidance that covers all possibilities for project stakeholders; including the Borrower/Client.

How do we handle scenarios where three vendors ‘timeshare’ an informal market spot? Each selling different products morning, afternoon and night.

How do we assess reported incomes of informal stall holders that pay no taxes and have no accounts? Ask to see evidence of payments made for bought stock? Take a rough guesstimate on whether what’s disclosed by a vendor is in the right ballpark?

How do we assess loss of earnings whilst construction prevents normal business? How do we deal with several PAPs claiming for the same asset?

You may think you know the answers but thousands of specialists don’t. Individual contexts are really important elements.
